A nice walk from Pont-ned-fuchan (or wherever it's called) up the river towared Ystrafellte. Along route we passed the old Silica mine workings, which were fallen down old stone building, surrounded by lots of rusty rock and slag heaps, and numerous evidence for former workings. In fact, we found the building where they probably did the melting part of the extraction, and if you run your finger roughly against the blackened stone, some soot comes off, and is smells of sooty metal.
We didn't actually go into the mines as we needed wellies and lights.
Along the walk we identified plenty of nice pools at the bottom of waterfalls that were crystal clear, quite deep though without any dangerous flows or currents, that would be lovely to dive and swim in during summer months, so a return trip with wetsuits/swimshorts is planned.
Hopefully there should be some photos of these, and the mine remains on the website soon.
