As we started to change in the drizzle, I realised that my SRT kit was still in the campervan after Hidden Earth the previous weekend. What a muppet!

Not wanting to abandon the trip though, we had a look at what we could cobble together. Luckily, it turned out that we had a long enough sling to make semi-decent make-shift harness. Between Mark and Andy they also had a spare descender, tibloc, foot jammer, and a few slings to fashion a chest tape and some cowstails. Unorthodox, but safe enough; we were ready to go. I think I definitely got the best deal, since apart from the harness I had been given a full SRT kit. The other two had slightly less fun, especially when it came to prussicking later.... Sorry guys!

I'd heard bad things about the entrance series. It was certainly awkward but thankfully nothing too bad. The rest of the cave was fairly uneventful, quite muddy I seem to remember but reasonably enjoyable. Got to Colossus to find it rather damp; visibility was pretty poor due to the spray. Ordinarily we'd have been happy to descend, but coupled with the unconventional SRT set-up, decided to give it a miss this time. One for another day...
