Never has a guide book been so wrong. "Well worth a visit"? Not if it's the last cave on earth! The entrance is small slot between a tree and a boulder which proved to be virtually impossibly to rig sensibly and impossible to rig without plenty of rope rub. Andy went down first without bothering to change, just to see what was there and after seeing a spit, decided to come back up to change into gear. It was at this point that he noticed the huge amount of insect/arachnid life on the walls - not nice! (but it made for a quick pussik!). After some rerigging of the entrance which made next to no difference he went down again accompanied by the comforting (?!) sound of falling rock.
A while later he emerged again saying that he couldn't find anything to rig off apart from the one spit he'd found originally which was apparently pretty rubbish! After the others had been down to at least see the first pitch (the general consensus being that it wasn't worth the effort of changing!) it was my turn, and I thought I'd at least find something else to rig off further down - there must be a natural Andy had missed.
Once I got down and rerigged the spit I realised quite how useless it was - fully tightened and the plate swung freely... Nevermind, the best tactic here seemed to be rig tight and don't look at it! Over the first ledge and there was still nothing in sight that was slightly useful, all I could see was a lot of loose rock moving around and a lot of rope rub above me. Surely there was something at the next ledge!
The next ledge reached and there was about twice as much rope rub and still absolutely nothing to rig off. Certainly time to head up accompanied by yet more rock heading the other way.
What a horrible cave, at least the weather was nice outside!
