After getting back from the day's caving, Doyle said he fancied a little evening trip, so I said we'd go for a furtle down Wool Pot of the Bitches. With tinnies in hand, we proceeded down the pot, banter flowing freely. Presently we arrived at Gour Chamber and drank our bevvies while admiring the surroundings. Job done, we GTFO'd back to the farm for a full night of shenanigans.

So once again the York University Cake and Pudding Club met to take a band of freshers into the subterranean world of the Yorkshire Dales. The team met at the new gear store at 9 to distibute items of safety to the newbies and then proceeded through the hordes of runners who'd gathered for some marathon or other. Onwards to the dales! Breakfast was sought in Inglesport, and soon we were heading to the darkness underground. Arrival on the fell saw... read more

The day started with an early start by Sardinian standards of 7.30am, we were up packed, and ready to go by half 8. Graced by excess time it was decided that a spot of shopping was on the agenda. In the following half hour or so a large amount of tasty, salty and generally very meaty products were purchased mainly as presents; along with an incredible volume of iced tea and some rather delicious apricot juice, that nobody apart from... read more

After the more serious undertaking of Su Palu the previous day (and consequently celebrating our efforts that evening) those of us who wanted to go underground were looking for an easy, fun trip. Brownbridge, Lumens, Boothby, Doyle Scott and I left in the “YUCPC bantz mobile” and headed back towards Su Bentu. However, this time the visit was intended for its resurgence – S’oche. After speaking to our new Italian friend at the visitor centre, who immediately recognised us from our... read more

Having failed to get a full troglodyte experience in Su Bentu due to one of Buzz Lightyear’s crony’s occupying the cave we were all determined to get a decent trip under our belts. After travelling along a typical poor but ever interesting Sardinian road we arrived at a pretty little car park. Consulting the car park map we set off along the dry river bed latterly re-joining the path and quickly finding the cave. The change was interesting as we were... read more

What a brilliant trip! Something completely different. We split into two groups and set off 5 minutes apart so as to avoid a faff fest. Rachel, Cat, Andy and I were lead by Tim and we set off behind the others. Right from the start the mine was physically involving and full of interesting features. A steep descent past some impressive iron oxide stals, corkscrewing round through big stopes and small tunnels, walking over false floors and huge piles of... read more

A fun and interesting trip as always. We walked over from Tanygrisiau - a scenic route but with lots of ascent. Fans of ferns, mosses and lycophytes will find much to delight them thereabouts. Many features of the mine I had forgotten since my last visit, including the bottomless pool and incline right at the start. There were brand new ropes on the pitches which was reassuring. At the zip line, we used the massive in-situ roller instead of our... read more

When I first heard of the Three Peaks Three Pots challenge, I was a young whippersnapper in Manchester. Chris Jewell had offered a free lift up to the Dales in return for some support for his attempt. My memory of that weekend is walking from Brackenbottom over Ingleborough to Meregill on a very windy night, waiting at the entrance for cavers to appear while slowly eating the food we had brought for said cavers, who did not appear, then making... read more
