Another awesome trip in the Gaping Gill system, without going to the main chamber. Some brilliant white formations in stunning condition..... 5 for scum beacause I had to dig out grit/sand from under me to get though a passage, of which there was a choice of two and I went down the grotty one! Next point of interest the Whitsun series.

7:30am saw me trudging through the snow enjoying the sunrise over campus and seeing the lake frozen for the first time this year. We were off for a weekend of longer trips, with GG planned on the Saturday and Easegill on the Sunday. As there were only a few of us we thought we’d try staying at the NPC hut as it was pretty centrally located, and it turned out this was a pretty good decision… The snow got thicker as... read more

Faff levels are currently over 9000

If it can go wrong, it will go wrong (the caving was effiscient and faff free, everything went smoothly underground but once we were out we were immediatly tronned by just about everything.

in true YUCPC style harking back to sell gill in laz\'s day, when disaster hits there shall always be a source of alcohol for those passengers who don\'t need to worry (honorary drunk). however due to being in modern times and not medieval where reliance was heavily on phone boxes (although the signal around aquamole is poo poo- so we may as well have had phone boxes). the perks of the day were seeing the man who dived the cave from... read more

Marcus\' German efficiency made up for the rest of the teams slightly slow changing skills. Really fun trip with really good company :) (the wet crawly bit wasn\'t the best though...) Shame we couldn\'t get all the way down... Should be done another time...

Hard because of slight rope shortage. (If we ignore the knot issue) it was an awesome trip with good banter and monster munch !! Would love to do again with the exchange next time!

Will bring more food next time. BTW this was meant to be an exchange with dihedral but missed them by about 10 minutes.

I have to admit that I had forgotton that Stream is a little more challenging than I remembered. We made quick progress down the entrance pitch, which is a little awkward at the top (rig rope from scaffold bar at top of pipe for return journey). We followed the streamway down until we reached the second pitch, which we started rigging at stream level from some naturals, however, although something didn\'t seem right. We then realised that the pitch... read more

Oh dear we don\'t seem to have endeared Luke to this cave! I enjoyed it in hindsight, and enjoyed about the first half on the day, then I got a bit demoralised by the never-ending rift and extra climb and streamway some of us did! The lovely farmer up at Leck Fell Farm not only let us park in the farmyard and walk across his land, but also let us change in the cowshed (the cow free side) out of... read more

excellent!! I needed that, a good cave, was quite blurry as i woke up with my head spinning from the night before!! But the walk to flood entrance was good for clearing the head, if you walk past bar pot then there is a hall that contains Henslers crawl if you don\'t go down Henslers crawl then you have the opportunity to go across a muddy traverse to go and see some more cave. Pretty glad that we didn\'t go down... read more

Excellent trip to an amazing cave, shame about the fail at the end.

Favourite trip so far. The LH route to the top was awesome!!

An awesome trip! Exactly how Notts should work! Turns out BT isn\'t ideal for wet weather though...
Mike wrote...
Amazing trip. LH route is absolutely brilliant and the lower streamway is just mind blowing. One of my favourite trips & caves

Really fantastic trip that I found challenging but very very rewarding. Thank you to those who went ahead of us and rigged the lower streamway - it was freaking uber! LH route was fantastic on the way down, centre was also pretty enjoyable on the way up. Cheers to mark and andy for pushing me out over the rock at the end while I flailed around like an idiot hahaha :D ++++bonus points for sheep carcass in waterfall

Just found a piece of paper where I wrote down which routes everyone went out (as every single person was different to the way they went in!) I was originally going to amend the list up there ^^ but that would cause too much faff, so before I throw the piece of paper away, it can go here instead in case anyone is interested: Cat: Centre Ade: Centre Andy: Centre Chad: Left Hand Rich: Adamsons-Left Hand (just to be awkward) Caitlin: Left Hand Toby: Adamsons Christina: Adamsoms Alex: Adamsons Mark:... read more

While doing Jean Pot the day before, I couldn’t stop thinking that the weather forecast for the Peak district was awful. It proved that way, with Chuck’s team already staying at the TSG, it was a 7am start at the container, which was not ideal for me because I was very tired due to washing my dirty caving gear at 1am that morning ready for Peak. Despite the heavy rain that greeted us that morning everyone was at the container... read more

After spending the night at the Chapel in readiness for Peak, we had a lovely lie-on on Sunday morning. Chuck got up at 8 to start on breakfast, and half an hour later appeared with tea in bed for the rest of us (he’s very well trained!) Looking at the weather outside we weren’t too optimistic; indeed, 8.45 saw Ann appear at the door to tell us that Peak was a no-go. My heart sank – that was the second... read more

COLD COLD COLD is the rating if you have a hole in your wellie and if its very wet. i will mention that if it was a little less wet the cave would have been very good but as it was. yuk! the only redeeming features of this cave are some of the fantastic formations near the start and whilst waiting for the ladder to be rigged- when your waiting around the point where the traverse line starts with the holes in... read more

Actually I\'d like to alter my change vote to a 3 based on the fact I forgot both a towel and a change of underwear! This was the first time I\'d done Giants and I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately the water levels were very high so we weren’t able to complete the round trip. We all got soaked on the ladder on the way down (which we had to jump off, as it had to be rigged off... read more

All in all an interesting cave certainly the most interesting features I have yet seen in my limited experience and interesting to be in a dry cave with relativly few squeezes. The climb out of the cave was perhaps a tad tough for a weakling like me but still fantastic none the less. A trip I would certainly recomend.

What can i say other than i should know this end of the cave by now!

"Let us never speak of this nasty hole again" - Gover When Chad suggested this cave I didn't know what to think. I'd heard horror stories of it being tight and full of bad air. Previous reports on the website didn't sound that encouraging. Nevertheless it was a cave I hadn't done before and there is no point writing a cave off before you've had a look at it, right? Chad had already collected Tom, George and the gear before he picked... read more

A fantastic Peak district Pothole, one that we could easily do more often. The entrance was not as tight as I was lead to believe. I would love to go back soon and do some of the other stuff down there one day. The change was grim!

Hard = 3 due to injuries sustained on the Friday night from all the crazy games Scum = 3 due to the sheep at the bottom that Anna sat in!

A fun trip. Some 'mature' cavers came down behind us, and they were very interesting people to talk to. As they rigged off different p-hangers to us on the second pitch I had fun overtaking one of the guys going back up. There was a lot of water coming down the wet route which was really spectacular, and explained the nicely formed shaft. Unfortunately for me Marcus wanted to go though the duck, I remember being keen on doing this on... read more

I got changed inside the Landy so no rain for me :p This was my first trip to this part of the Easegill system and I was looking forward to a good old explore. We successfully found Gour Hall (ha ha Mark!) and then went back for a wander in the Pippikin streamway to find the bottom of the entrance series. A precarious looking drop into Leck Fell Lane made us change our minds about which route to take to Hall... read more

In terms of fun, the caving was 5, but being stuck behind Leeds both going in and out of the cave was not fun at all. Ultimate Faff beyond any scale! There seem to be hundreds of people from Leeds in various groups going up and down Bar all day, and along with us had a permit, so we were a little screwed. I had thought about going down Small Mammal, but decided against it. The last Bar pot trip I... read more

Good trip. The day started off very faffy with a rather long trip to bernies on the way and various forgotten things and general sitting around! Finally headed out towards county to drop the others off, who by then had been overtaken by about 30 others doing various trips! We left the others to wait by county and headed on to wretched rabbit, just beating the masses to the entrance :-). Here we became super efficient and wooshed down the... read more

A day of firsts…. My first time doing this cave (Luke – “How have you never done Jingling before?!”) and hence first time rigging it. The swing to get into the rift was rather fun! Maz’s first SRT trip – she did very well, coping with the re-belays and slightly awkward pitch-heads. At the bottom while Laura, Maz and I free-climbed down to the final chamber, Toby did his first bit of rigging, aided by Luke teaching him lots... read more
