It was quite pleasing to reach the bottom since we'd somehow manage to forget ropes for three of the pitches :/

Fafftastic. This was approximately plan D after multiple previous plans were abandoned due to weather forecast or lack of trip leaders elsewhere. After directing the other group to Sell Gill, we were finally on our way. For some reason, Tatty Wife is a cave I'd never to before. I’d probably always been put off by the long walk. There was a lot more to it than I was expecting and it turned out to be a rather fun and varied trip,... read more

Preamble: I seem to be quite enjoying caving at the moment and have peculiarly high levels of enthusiasm for it, reminiscent of my youth. Consequently Toby and I conspired to arrange an extra-curricular weekend meet and put the call out for other participants. Now I generally do my best to shun any form of responsibility so when I was asked to choose a cave for this trip, I was taken aback. My immediate response was the Buttertubs, on account of its... read more

We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time. Through the unknown, remembered gate When the last of earth left to discover Is that which was the beginning (T. S. Eliot, Four Quartets) T. S. Eliot was probably a caver. Luckily, he decided to stay behind on this particular trip, which... read more

As usual, I had no prior knowledge of this trip and gave it very little forethought. This one turned out to be an absolute cracker. It had been on Mark and Toby’s to-do list for a while, and I now know why. A bit of rain had fallen overnight and more was forecast that evening. Taking advice from Tony, we decided it'd be reet down Bubbles route. Apparently if we missed call out, he’d be sent to fetch us and... read more

We went to Twinkle Cave. You probably didn't. Ner ner na ner ner! This is a real cave, with formations and room to swing multiple cats. It wasn't the cave we were looking for, but that doesn't really matter at this juncture. We also found multiple other caves / digs / buckets / sinks in the vicinity of Twinkle Cave. Twinkle Cave.

An interesting trip. We split into two groups: Toby was to go with Sarah for 'rigging practice' down Ding Dong Bell while Cat, Vicky and I were to try to find Overshadow route. After swinging through the window half way down Ding, Cat had a look over to the right up a cobble slope. She didn't seem convinced so sent me on a recce. Up the cobble slope, round a corner, through a waterfall, round another corner and into a flat... read more

Awww Walmslers, I had no idea you'd had such an epic! I'd just like to add/clarify a few things though as it makes it sound like we didn't care about poor Walmslers! After clambering up for a nosey along the passage, I was fairly sure the cobble slope had to be the right way based on the survey/rigging guide but it was all scarily loose and I didn't fancy the look of the continuing passage, so asked Walmslers to see what... read more
