Having failed to get a full troglodyte experience in Su Bentu due to one of Buzz Lightyear’s crony’s occupying the cave we were all determined to get a decent trip under our belts. What a brilliant trip! Something completely different. We split into two groups and set off 5 minutes apart so as to avoid a faff fest. Rachel, Cat, Andy and I were lead by Tim and we set off behind the others. Right from the start the mine was physically involving and full of interesting features. A fun and interesting trip as always. We walked over from Tanygrisiau - a scenic route but with lots of ascent. Fans of ferns, mosses and lycophytes will find much to delight them thereabouts. Many features of the mine I had forgotten since my last visit, including the bottomless pool and incline right at the start. There were brand new ropes on the pitches which was reassuring. When I first heard of the Three Peaks Three Pots challenge, I was a young whippersnapper in Manchester. Chris Jewell had offered a free lift up to the Dales in return for some support for his attempt. Having been a Main Chamber whore for some time now and watching Sid Peruo’s film The Lost River of Gaping Gill I was intend on heading into the Far Country. I set about recruiting some reprobates; Alistair ‘Lumens’ Rollinson, Ban Doothby and our resident Scots member Rachel Findlay. Faff-tastic was one way to describe this trip, addmitedly not all of our doing. We all fancied a relatively short trip, and so Walmslers recomended this. We met at the much more civilised time of 10, left by 10.30 but hit traffic (faff no.1). After stopping for copius amounts of cream cakes for second breakfast (an essesntial not a faff!) we eventually reached Kingsdale, where we had to arrange a callout in an area of weak signal (faff no.2).
