A perhaps silly idea of a trip as this was intended to be a Lancs to County and I had never actually done Lancs to Mainline Terminus. Got lost somewhere after the death pits, turned around. Found out the next day that I was within 1 metre of the right passage. Also Viki saved us, we love Viki. In a more detailed manner - Oxbow Junction is described as "easily missed" and boy does it live up to that description. The... read more

Once upon a time, on a dark and stormy Monday evening the infamous YUCPC newsletter appeared in my inbox. Eager to find out what kind of madness is going on, without hesitation I slammed the mouse button. The instant I saw “Bull Pot Farm” something had shifted- like the click of a lock. The ideas in my brain were no longer theoretical; what was about to happen felt inevitable. Bull Pot farm is a premier destination for an excited caver,... read more

It was an early rise for my caving trip, as I was about to embark on my coolest caving adventure yet. Totally not because we failed to find a driver, me and Alfie were setting off on a 2 hour train journey followed by a further 2 hours walking towards what would be my first time in Gaping Gill, through no other entrance than Rat Hole. It was certainly an unconventional first route into this epic chamber. I never quite realised... read more

Cave shits are awful. Very highly do not recommend. I suggest the Rosie method instead: ‘I just don’t do it’. The conception of a Sell Gill camp was created for the event of the year which was of course, Challenge Week. 24hrs underground challenge? Where else to do it but Sell Gill? It’s mostly dry down the dry route, it’s pretty, and within walking distance of a train station (which was actually the only real reason we chose Sell Gill because... read more

Titan, if you haven't heard, is one of the tallest cave shafts in Castleton. Because of this, a Titan-JH exchange was decided on the Saturday evening as a good solid Sunday trip to round off the TSG weekend. We had a bedtime trip report reading for motivation and went to sleep ready for a nice and early 10:30 leave for Titan. Come morning, I wandered over from where I was staying in the YHA to find breakfast already cooked and waiting... read more

Part 1: Descending Titan and the Connection. The day began with relative efficiency: I wandered over to the hut for breakfast, checked with Sophie that the trip plan was still running smoothly and settled down to await the arrival of Rosie and Chris (joining us from York for a day trip, bringing the JH ropes and some thoughtfully selected tacklesacks to pack them in, lovely!) It was something like 10:30am when they arrived, and we had a quick five minutes of... read more

I was initially a little sceptical of doing another Titan-JH exchange on the Sunday of the TSG, given that the one last year was my biggest epic to date. But all our little freshlings were so excited to go and it started to look like it could actually work, especially after Rosie told us she was bringing Chris and his car, instead of the Panda, so I got excited too. After all, how could it be longer than last year?... read more

Long story short, they went down, then they went a bit sideways, then they went up, the end.

On the lovely warm Saturday of our TSG weekend I decided that I very much did not want to do Rowter and was planning on doing P8 on the Sunday so did not want to join James trip - which left me carless and tripless - a perfect chance to explore Peak Cavern! I recruited Antje, Lucy, and Charlie. Me and Antje had both been there previously but my trip was very faff-ful and Antje didn’t remember much, so we... read more
