the polystrene was from some filiming in the 80/90's by peak rescue

Kevin wrote...

Where did you find that out? I quite tempted to go back and drop the sketchy hole in the floor using a ladder... Don't want to bounce on a rope in there!

Christopher wrote...

what type of filming was it? like rescue training video?

Sam wrote...

yer it was on a disscusion board, they where showing how peak cro did mine rescues

Alastair wrote...

You Cheeky Boys!!! 10 caves in one day! Disgraceful, it should have just been Yordas Repeat :p

Kevin wrote...

Too wet for that Al, too wet.

Alastair wrote...

And you missed out Carlswalk! which would have been easier than yordas given your location. I'm Jealous i want 10 caves in a day.

Kevin wrote...

No we didn't, we went to the sump! We started at the wrong end of the dale for Carlswark, we worked down towards Stoney from Furness Quarry. We actually did more than 10 but don't know the names of them all. Some of the mines were really sketchy! You'll have to just look forward to our next outing, Sam has the maps this time I think.

Sunday June 12th 2011 Titan Shaft To the Titan Streamway Members: Adam Walmsley,  Karim Shokraee,  Mandy Fu,  Toby Buxton

Karim wrote...

It was a good laugh! Titan streamway was a bit dissapointing....a bit short, a few fun and reasonably tough (thankfully short!) free climbs. It then turns into a bit of a shrinker. Traverse over the event horizon was great though. GOing up the main pitch with the camera gear showed me I still have a bit of fitness training to do for berger!!!

Saturday June 11th 2011 JH Over-Engine Mine - Titan Shaft Members: Chad B,  Mark Sims,  Toby Buxton

Toby wrote...

Friday night at the TSG had been fairly messy, but Mark, Chad and I woke up feeling fairly alright. Unfortunately, this was not because of our sturdy constitutions and ability to hold our drink. We were still very much under the influence. Nevertheless, soon our ropes were packed and we'd persuaded Ade to drive us up Winnats Pass. At Rowter Farm we met a couple of guys from the Buttered Badgers, who are joining us in the summer for the Berger.... read more

After My last trip down Oxlow and in fact the last club trip down oxlow (Although some members have been down to see new oxlow!), We thought it needed a return journey! This Time we had the cave/mine to ourselves, just the three of us. Which Helped and also not having a large team helped as well. We managed to Rattle in and Rattle out in no time at all, with time to explore the bottom too! went to see... read more

Saturday June 4th 2011 Bye George Pot to the Grand Cascade Members: Adam Walmsley,  Caitlin Brumby,  Mark Sims,  Toby Buxton

Toby wrote...

Bye George is cool! To find it, go see if you can park at Leck Fell House (we got to change in the barn!), then walk down the hill through two gates. The first fairly flat field is the right one, and the shakehole is a fairly obvious double one on a direct diagonal out from the far left corner of the field, if you see what I mean. Negotiating the entrance pipe involves battling spiders. At the bottom some... read more

A quality trip. Some of the best helictites I've seen, and nicely protected by the scummy bits! :) No need for all the tape in here, which gives it that nice 'unexplored' feeling. I reckon the backbreaker is definitely worse on the way out, and should probably be called the leg-breaker! I found it easiest on my side & cross legged :) On the way out it was probably as wedged as I've ever been underground, but it all adds to... read more

Caitlin wrote...

Definitely worse if you are a bit wider/broader around the chest getting out of the Backbreaker - I thought my legs would be short enough to avoid any fancy leg bending techniques - just ended up be being in possession of a sore left thigh. I think it was ok for Toby on the way out as he could fit through the tight bit the rest of us couldn't :( Kudos for Walmsley though - wider and taller than... read more

Cracking cave! I concur with the previous reviewers. Spiders were worrisome. Quite sporting and physical, at least in the first part. Moist in places. Tendency to be small. Some of the loveliest pretties I've seen in Yorkshire. Knee pads are strongly advised. Short/bendy legs advantageous. I would like to do this as part of a through trip some time soon.
