This was a trip to explore some of the less visited parts of County. A short but fun streamway round trip, then off exploring the Trident maze. Instead of the usual way off Splash Chamber to the Trident streamway, we took the first passage on the left. This pops out at a big drop you can rig a rope down to drop you on a rock bridge. Once down we headed left, then turned off right to get to Crystal... read more

There are some points on the route where the Braemore description of the route to Cape kennedy can be difficult to follow although one the whole its pretty accurate. Firstly, it mentions the first passage on the right after the climb up from the col in fall pot as the start of the route to the cape from Stake pot, this wasnt too easy to find, the guide is right, but the start of the passage it describes seems to be... read more

LOL at our sillyness. We went on an evening trip to go and look at the gower pools, however nobody was quite sure of exactly where they were so we ended up going up in a little chamber with Toby trying to squeeze past a very large loose boulder and us thinking there had been some sort of mega rock movement. fail. However we found the gower pools on the way out and they were lovely. A baby oak tree... read more

Scum 5 because I fell in the sump up to my kneck (cavers have negative boyancy) which also led to change 4.

Alexander wrote...

@ Jonny, fail

Lieke wrote...

Change 5 because I was stupid enough not to ask for Matt\'s car keys and couldn\'t feel my fingers by the time he got back.

Great trip, hard work though as I was well out of practice! Had a great laugh, I\'ve slacked a lot recently, especially given that the walk to the cave was nearly enough for me....! Good to get back into it....the drive back was a bit of a killer though :)

Jonathan wrote...

What a cave! It definatly punches above its weight, on paper it isnt much but on the way out it shows its teeth a bit, especially with a large tackle sack. Probably one of the best SRT caves there is, its difficult to understand why this isnt done all the time as its great and brings together nearly everything involved in SRT and the last pitch is one of the classics.

Chad wrote...

A really good trip, actually the first time I\'d ever gone down Eldon - really good rigging, pull through was fun - Millers Chamber is awesome - was not expecting that. Just wished I could have enjoyed it a bit better, was feeling rather quesy :s

Mark wrote...

A really enjoyable trip to a bit of Easegill I\'d never seen before. I think it\'s fair to say that you couldn\'t tick of Easegill without having visited Little Lechuguilla. A great day that massively exceeded expectations!

Caitlin wrote...

Faff 3, and scum 3, as we went into this muddy watery flat out crawl when Mark suddenly forgot his left and right and took us that wrong way! Ewww!

Saturday January 15th 2011 Maskhill Mine Members: Chad B,  Jonathan Booth,  Lieke Oosterkamp

Jonathan wrote...

Nothing wrong with the trip but I wasnt really in the mood, Maskill is a really good cave, I need to go back and bottom it at some point.

Lieke wrote...

\"wasn\'t really in the mood\" means \"had a hangover\" :P

The quest for pumkin pot has been a long and arduous adventure, but finally I believe we have found it. The enterence is located a minute away from the car, so there is no issue finding this magnificent cave. As the saga of epicness begin, young admaril stelfox started to rig this leviathan, the descent was overwhelming, any mere mortal would of fainted due to the awe inspiring essence of the shaft, yet he bravely (and quite stoically) carried on. On... read more

Reaching the bottom I too had to give an almighty rope free call, waiting what seemed like minutes for the responce from the surface. I was quickly beckoned by Alex towards a waterfall at the far end of the first chamber. I saw the small squeeze and hurried to help clear out the debris. I thought to myself that these blocks we were moving seemed to have been put here on purpose so as to keep people out. This didn\'t stop... read more

As I caught up with the others in front i realized i was treading on something quite surreal, instead of mud or rock i was crunching up some white substance, at this point sam got rather excited, it seemed that we had not only stumbled upon a cave painting site but also a site of sacrifice and salvation, as this substance turned out to be Bones. Fortunately i did manage to find a rock to sit down on as... read more

Yet again I had fallen to mans greatest folly and had destroyed what I loved. Sadness fell but soon altered, as the stark realization reared its ugly head, I had destroyed the only exit, so onwards we had to go. Were we mad to follow alastairs ethereal Premonitions? who knows, yet somewhere deep in my being I trusted him so onwards we went. The chamber was vast, the little light we had left barely scraped the surface of the all consuming... read more

My first YUCPC trip into this cave for 7 months. Believe it. Took Mhairi on the usual trip around the sumps and did an extra small bit in the showcave. Treasury Sump was rising and falling about an inch, pretty cool. Cooler was the water going up to Ink Sump, where bollocks received a thorough submersion, though thankfully head did not this time. Fell asleep on the way to Far Sump. Woke up in time to make Tina go the right... read more

So orginally, we were supopose to be doing Swinsto with Marcus and Toby, but that got scraped due to the weather and me not wanting to add to the list of Swinsto rescues. Lieke had not seen the main chamber, giving me the excuse of going down Bar Pot (again!) for which there was a nice snowy scene at the entrance, the others didnt fancy coming, then within half and hour witout even trying we were at South east... read more

Caitlin wrote...

Going down was fairly efficient - and needless to say very impressive as Rowten seems to always be. I wasn\'t massively enthusiastic about the trip but probably because I forgot how massive it was, and how awesome the rock bridge at the bottom of the first pitch. I agree with Mike when he said \'It\'s like something about Lord of the Rings.\' The SRT is very fun - and going into the rift at the top of the main pitch is... read more

Rumour has it, Toby was actually delayed during the derigging \'cause he was distracted by his \'buff\' reflection in a p hanger :p On a more serious note, what an exchange! The routes are within sight of each other most of the way down and the big pitch is great fun with the ropes so close!

Sunday January 2nd 2011 Diccan Pot Members: Chad B,  Lieke Oosterkamp,  Marcus Roby

Chad wrote...

Well I think the fun rating of 5 can only apply to going into the cave :p Suprisingly we were the only people at the long churns, to go down Diccan pot with Lieke, while Marcus and Maz took our visitor Malou through Long churn, after which Marcus caught us up. Rigging Diccan is awesome stuff, you are never too far from the water crashing down the cave - it was quite a din. Plenty of involved rigging, a nice good old... read more
