First things first: Paddy got out of the car and promptly retrieved his breakfast all over the roadside. Secondly and even better, 13 blackcock and 1 greyhen were seen on the way up to the cave. This made me giddy with excitement and put me in undampenable good spirits for the rest of the day. After getting changed in lovely scenery by the Wharfe, the five of us traipsed past the hamlet of Yockenthwaite (why does it even have a name? It's literally 4 houses) up the hill. As per the description, we followed the wall to a small waterfall type feature, and easily found the fenced off entrance about 20 metres to our left. Since we didn't have a description or survey, and none of us knew the cave, it's quite interesting to see where we got to on this little bimble. We started by heading up Pybus By-pass and along the passage to Black Hole Chamber. Here we continued down to the left through a crawl and in to the Night Shift Series. Aygill Cavern... not so sure about the 'cavern' bit of it, but it was smaller and more tedious than the name implies. Anyways, we set off in high spirits, keen to explore one of the less well-known caves in the Easegill area.
