After the SRT training course we headed to TSG and stayed the night. Had lots of fun and caver shenanigans. Then we split into lots of different groups going in JH, Titan and Peak. My group were going to do some bolt climbing in the area past the "lake of 1000 banana skins". However we had a group of 5 people going down titan in front of us so we had to leave drill kit behind and not do some... read more

Could this trip have been any more faffy?!? High water levels plus incoming storm of doom means we choose to do rowten. 1) arrive at container a bit late... 2) attempt to leave container only to find out that I need a new car battery. Get jump start from Andy. 3) slow traffic. 4) EFFICIENT (no, really) breakfast at bernies see's us catching up time and leaving before midday. 5) get to parking for rowten to find seven cars, at least one going... read more

You forgot the bit about Mark checking the guy's legs out!

A superb and highly successful trip. With the exception of an aborted attempt six months back (water levels too high to pass Bell pitch), I haven't been down Ireby Fell since I was a fresher myself. This trip reminded me what an excellent and varied trip Ireby is. We arrived to find numerous cars parked at Masongill, and given the recent wet weather we expected Ireby to be rather packed. We were surprised to find ourselves to be... read more

After all my wussing around about caves with ropes in I totally loved this! Stringy, dry and spacious. Ace! I want to do it again.

Because we were being "efficient" on the ropes we'd packed, we rigged the main hang from a point about half way along the rift (instead of the very end). This was a nice change and provided extra interest by hanging a bit closer to the waterfall (still completely safe). There's also a couple of plate hangers in place for a nice y-hang part way down which would've broken the pitch up quite well (if i'd used them). If there's another group... read more

Really lovely walk-almost too pretty! :) and i even got a slight tan-in february-in the dales! crazyness. Walked to wretched rabbit, persuaded my dad to go fetch my bag from it, walked up to top sink, then all the way down to the resurgence with lots of stops to climb about/admire the prettyness :) and back for a cuppa!

Had a little potter around, not too sure where we went or even if it was the way we had intended, but it was quite fun anyway. The only bit of faff was not knowing the code to get in the hut when everyone else was out for a walk!

We didn't really have any trouble with navigation at all, it all kind of just fell into place nicely! We had a really good system going on tho, Simon with the description and the main decision making, then me with the maps and telling Simon when he's wrong :P To be fair, Simon led this trip really well. And I'm very proud of us all for doing it and not getting lost! It was very tiring! Didn't need any ropes like the... read more

We went in wretched rabbit and down spiral staircase route, which is mega pretty, to the main drain where we decided to go to easter grotto for some more prettyness, via a nasty flat out crawl and squeeze but totally worth it! :) then we looped back round and headed to stop pot, and then out of wretched rabbit. So a nice figure of 8 trip, about 5 hours in total plus a little bit more for me going in... read more

OMG FAFF!!!

Level 3 scummyness due to kev and chuck repeatedly farting and causing cave evacuations :s
Kevin wrote...
I think you will find the person who caused us to evacuate from the final part of the cave was actually Laz! But great fun being allowed to roam free in a show cave. Meeting the owner was very cool too, looking forward to going back!

I'm sure mine was just an "audible alert" rather than some real "bad air" like Kevin's!! :p Was good fun, and especially good that you can be sitting down with a cup of tea within about 10 s of leaving the cave (as long as you run and there isn't a queue!). First time I've ever seen a double-glazed door on a cave entrance! 8)

Doesn't White Scar have a double glazed door leading to Battlefield Chamber? Tea and food reasonably priced etc...

Excellent fun! I liked that no one took us round it so we could be really silly. I disliked Kevins contributions to the trip :P Jacket potato, Licorice tea, Kevin's chips and Nikki's soup were all yummy.

I would like to point out that although I tried to follow Kevin's lead in the bad air production, I was unable to do so. This may have changed in the car on the way home. :)

Finally got round to doing Cow after a failed attempt ages ago. The day started with an interesting route to Ingleton via the A1M Southbound (don't ask), but despite that, and not getting out of bed until half 8, we arrived at Ingleton by 11am! A super efficient trip! We got up to the end of Montague West to see the pritties and back out in about 3 hours! Some interesting rigging at the top of Fall Pot; I thought it... read more

Great trip! My third attempt due to first time going the wrong way from the bottom of the entrance, and second time a member of my team developing an injury on the way down the slot at the bottom of the entrance. So I was hoping for third time lucky! The slot down at the bottom of the entrance pitch has a fixed rope in place. It's quite easy to get down, but more challenging to get back... read more

Having been told it was a grade 5 squeezy cave where people have gotten stuck on previous trips I was expecting it to be absolutely horrible. But actually, other than a couple of short squeezes and a couple of slightly dodgy climbs, it's really not that hard - no harder than most grade 4 caves. So an unexpectedly pleasant trip, hard enough to be interesting but not too much. Near the bottom can be found a series of in-situ SRT ropes... read more

In my defence, all I told James was that there were 2 bits where I couldn't get through cos I'm weak and have a fat arse. And I did say that it didn't seem like a grade 5 to us when me, Si and Debbie did it, and that it was more a grade 5 from the danger perspective. When I did this trip the first time I swore I would never go back, and when I did go back I... read more

It was great to finally get the opportunity to do this cave. Had a wonder up the streamway to Ink Sump, with some interesting noises from the scaffolding poles we'd all been asked to carry! An easy source of pack horses for the diggers in Peak me thinks! A few of us did the short sump before Ink Sump but most went though the bypass. Some superb caving lead us all to Moss Chamber, via the fun mud slopes and some... read more

We speeded down to the sumps (carrying a scaffold pole each) and had a bit of a splash about, and a handful of people did the free-dive sump. We then headed back, turning off along towards Moss Chamber. This entails climbing up out of the streamway and along a long hands and knees crawling passage for some distance, until you can pop up and into a chamber at the bottom of a muddy slope. A slippery climb... read more
